  2. How to protect your Instagram photos
    By Adrian Covert
    http://money.cnn.com/2012/12/19/technology/social/instagram-photos-privacy/

Instagram recently changed its terms and conditions giving the company commercial rights to user accounts and images. Basically, Instagram can now sell users’ pictures to other entities, and profit from the endeavor. To protect your photos with Instagram it is recommended to set your account to private, as those accounts are exempt from the terms and conditions. Be sure to back up an account if you decide to jump ship from Instagram, because once the account is deleted you can get the photos back. Also, a user can use a new photo sharing site like Flickr that respects copyrights and intellectual property.

  4. Instagram Does an About-Face

    http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/12/20/instagram-does-about-face-reverts-to-previous-policy/?ref=technology

Photo-sharing service Instagram angered customers earlier this week by announcing its users’ data would be used by Facebook’s advertisers. Later on, however, Instagram changed this decision due to customers’ dissatisfaction.

Instagram will instead change its advertising policy after its users were concerned their information and photographs would be shared with Facebook and its advertisers. Instagram users had threatened to use other services, e.g. Flickr or the application Pheed, but the company promised to revise its plans. However, even these changes have not stopped users leaving Instagram.

The problem is that Facebook bought Instagram earlier this year for $735 million and is under pressure for it to make more money. Instagram is currently a free service. Banner advertising is not enough, and users’ data are far more valuable.

Despite competition, Instagram has 100 million members, but this success could change in light of recent events. Facebook and Instagram have so far declined to say if they had seen any significant number of account deletions.

  7. New Online Privacy Rules for Children
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/20/technology/ftc-broadens-rules-for-online-privacy-of-children.html?ref=technology&_r=0
Federal regulators on Wednesday broadened longstanding privacy safeguards covering children’s mobile apps and Web sites. they updated the rules to keep pace with the growing use of mobile phones and tablets by children.
The new rule expands the definition of personal information to include persistent IDs if they are used to show a child behavior-based ads. It also requires third parties like ad networks and social networks that know they are operating on children’s sites to notify and obtain consent from parents before collecting such personal information. And it makes children’s sites responsible for notifying parents about data collection by third parties integrated into their services.
The intent of that was to give parents control over entities seeking to collect information about their children so that parents could, among other things, prevent unwanted contact by strangers.

Windows 8 to do the following review’s Nat TechXcite a system of portable devices such as mobile phones or tablets. Believe that many of you would be familiar with many operating systems. For example, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry but if you speak to an operating system that is popular.
In this latest version of Windows 8 operating system, Microsoft has changed the concept of the original is not fair to me. The original focus of the command via mouse or keyboard in Windows 8 OS, but this is a new experience to the user by touching the screen to focus on. The new version of the notebook. That comes with the operating system, Windows 8 all I get to keep up with the current market to the modern era. Many people began to use the Tablet PC iPad and the many people that are familiar to me. But the majority of the tablet PC. The emphasis on the "watch" rather than entertainment. If you are used to "work" is really too much may be incomplete. (For example, the various Office documents).
The operating system is Windows 8 operating system will meet a man who wants to use the device for entertainment. And it can function perfectly serious than other tablet operating systems now. There's a game or an application, download and play on computers as well as tablets. (Notebook models. Some models can be folded back to the keyboard. Or slide keyboard. For use as a tablet).
Next, we take a look at new features. Windows 8 operating system is different from the old version of Windows 7.But if you do that, it may seem strange to me because it is the Windows 8 operating system. Most users do not use the operating system directly. However, users can use applications on the operating system are now over. So let's look at the key features of the latest version of the operating system are very good.

  14. 5 Ways Technology Will Impact Higher Ed in 2013

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/groupthink/2012/12/11/5-ways-technology-will-impact-higher-ed-in-2013/

The article briefly touches on the trends of technology in higher education in 2012 and the impacts from five different areas that could change the way we higher education is offered. The MOOC is a trend that has actually helped top tier universities to branch out and reach a wider audience, whereas pioneers like Phoenix University started closing some of its operations. The “flipping classroom” is going to become more innovative and classes would become much more hands on with a variety of ideas of how this type of classroom can work. Another aspect that is heavily speculated is the term “hybrid program”. This program is separated in to two different areas, one which they can access learning at their own pace but the other where they attend classes in person. The experience of learning will be challenged with innovative ideas and approaches that make them more suitable to all learners, therefore the race to discover new instructional models. Although, it is believed that with more access to a bigger group of students the cost of higher education may reduce to make it more accessible to more professional and students.

You know that windows 8 were delivered on 26 October. Up to now, many people still double a little bit about this product. Others don't have time to update this product. If you are really like high tech, it is good occasion to try it. If the holiday season delivered a new Windows 8 device into your life, I'm sure you're eager to get to know your new toy. Navigating and mastering Windows 8 will take a lot of your time, but you also should think about adding apps to your machine. For now, the Windows Store won't be as robust as you may like but there are enough apps to cover the basics of entertainment, gaming, productivity, and communication. So whether you have a new Surface or a Windows 8 laptop, check out the following titles. Not every title here may pique your interest, but they can get you started. Good luck and wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Nigeria's BlackBerry addiction offers hope for Research in Motion
In Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt, Africa's three biggest economies, BlackBerrys outsold smartphone competitors this quarter.
    By; Monica Mark.
A delegate checks a BlackBerry at an exhibition during the West & Central Africa Com conference in Nigeria's capital Abuja.
"What's your BB pin? "This question is the ultimate social status badge for many young, urban Nigerians. Standing in front of a row of gleaming BlackBerry handsets in a Lagos phone shop, sales assistant Remi Olajuwon explained: "The average Nigerian has a very healthy interest in status and luxury. So if somebody asks for your BlackBerry pin and you don't have one …" she trailed off with a dismissive flick of her false eyelashes. Retailing at between $200 (£126) and $2,000 in a country where most live on less than $2 a day, the cost alone made it a status symbol, she added. "People come in to buy one just to show they've been promoted."Amid sagging sales in Europe and North America, developing markets offer a ray of hope for Research in Motion (RIM), after the maker of BlackBerry posted a $235m loss for the latest quarter. In Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt, Africa's three biggest economies, BlackBerrys outsold smartphone competitors this quarter. Kenya and Ghana also had buoyant sales, officials said Around one sixth of Africa's 620 million active phone subscribers come from Nigeria. Half of Nigeria's 4 million smartphone owners use BlackBerrys, and use among the wealthiest segment of society is forecast to increase six-fold by 2016."There's a misconception Africans only want cheap phones [but] Nigeria is a key market for us. We're seen as an aspirational product," said RIM regional director Waldi Wepener last month, after the company opened its first Nigerian store in Lagos's computer village, a sprawling haven for tech junkies.

    FOAM STOPS INTERNAL BLEEDING

Spray foam has been used to stop; air leaks in tires, water from leaking pipes, and to patch up holes in insulation, now scientists have actually created foam that can be sprayed into wound to stop internal bleeding. This is especially useful for solders wounded on the battlefield. Life and death means their wounds must be treated within the first 60 minutes. Unlike external injuries internal wounds cannot be stopped by applying pressure. The spray would allow fallen soldiers to survive long enough to make it to the hospital.

The development of new technology is incredible. It can help reduce human labor but increase the productivity and service. For instance, in the teaching and learning process, Essa Academy in Bolton equipped with the electronic whiteboards in every classroom and students use iPads instead of notebooks/papers and pencils. With this new tool, teachers can applied it with every subject, especially the scientific fields such as maths lesson, geography lesson, and other applying subjects. Students use the devices in class, and at home, with lessons and homework delivered to them mainly through the iTunes U platform. In the classroom, TV monitors on which the content from the teacher’s or the students’ iPad.
The iTunes U platform can allow the school to put so many teaching resources online which will be easy for teachers and students to search the information related to the subjects to be taught and learned.
This is the good news for teachers and students in developed countries but sometimes it is unfair with the teachers and students in the developing countries.

Facebook testing 'pay to message' feature
    http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2012/12/20/facebook-testing-pay-to-message-feature/
The social network ‘Facebook’ intends to employ a new set of filters which will help the users to communicate more effectively. It allows the users to ping the people they are not friend with, in return of spending a dollar.
The rationale is to let the senders communicate with the people they have already heard of or know but yet not friends, and at the same time allowing the receivers to hear from those who have an important message to them. It will finally be “a small experiment to test the usefulness of economic signals.”
This feature will be only available for individual users and marketing companies cannot use that for their business purposes.

    http://money.cnn.com/2012/12/21/technology/social/facebook-messaging/index.html

Facebook is testing a system that is currently only available to a small amount of people in the U.S which allows messaging others who are not in their friend’s list at a not yet known fee. There has been a lot of complaints that messages got lost in the spam filter when texting to people who weren’t integrated in someone’s network. Currently Facebook only delivers messages from friends or friends of friends. Other messages which facebook deems irrelevant are marked as spam. With a paid system however messages could be considered relevant even without being integrated in someone’s network. This could be the case if a company wants to send you job offers that you have requested.

That's what seemed to have changed, and what people are upset about.
