Even FCC thinks in-flight gadget bans are dumb By Adrian Covert http://money.cnn.com/2012/12/09/technology/in-flight-cell-phones/index.html
The United States FCC has determined that it is no longer necessary to ban use of gadgets in-flight. Such gadgets include, but are not limited to, e-readers, iPads, and other tablets. After numerous testing of gadgets in-flight, the FCC has no proof that they interfered with on-board instruments, as airlines have previously stated. Though airlines believed anomalies occurred, they could never replicate the anomaly in testing. Many airlines are concerned that gadgets would distract passengers pay attention during flight safety instructions. However, passengers are allowed to read magazines, books, etc. during announcements. The FCC recommends that the policy should change, but it will not happen quickly or overnight.

You post news on facebook, come back in eight hours and read all the comments that you get, and don’t have to worry about having a difficult conversation. But some experts think that putting bad news on Facebook almost inevitably trivializes it, to the sufferer’s further detriment.. When someone puts bad news on social media, it’s trying to show bravado, and pretending that you’re not devastated by the news. It isn’t good because if you don’t feel the feelings, it interferes with your grief.

Khan Academy started from humble beginnings of providing tutorial videos for students in specific areas of learning. Today they have partnered with several schools in order to enhance and enrich student learning experience. They base their reflections on aspects they believe are critical to the learning process. The model works because it is flexible enough to understand that every student is different and so is every classroom. The article also discusses the flipped classroom and how it brings about a more creative, engaged and interacting atmosphere of learning. It was believed that personalized learning tools would only be able to motivate the high achieving students, but that could not be further from the truth. Students were able to bring up their confidence and their understanding at their own pace and most importantly not fall behind on their curricula requirements. Finally, perhaps the most important reassurance is that teachers are now more valuable than they ever were. They finally get to spend time doing what they love best and become mentors to their students, an important element for student success.

US Judges refuses Apple’s request to get a sales ban on a number of Samsung devices. The requested sales ban covers 26 Samsung products which were denied because Samsungs infringement was just part of a lager feature set, making the request to ban sales on the 26 Samsung products to broad. Prior to that Samsung lost a court ruling to Apple, leading to a 1.05 Billion fine in Apple’s favor.

Lytro Gives Photogs Handier Controls, Snappy New Colors
http://www.technewsworld.com/story/76350.html
Lytro is a new unorthodox boxed shaped camera that looks more like a spy toy than an actual dslr. Lytro's new technology allows users the freedom of using extra long exposure times or they can freeze the shot with super fast shutter speeds. Lytro's Light Field technology allows the camera to capture much more information about a scene than is captured by a conventional digital camera. Conventional cameras describe the sum total of light rays striking each point in an image. Light Field captures the color, intensity and direction of all the rays of light flowing into the camera.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20646933 The technology giant IBM said that it has developed a chip that can transfer data via light pulses instead of using electrical signals. This means data transfer can be transferred a lot faster compared to using electrical signals. This chip and technology does not only help with faster data transfer but it is also able to transfer bigger data compared to the other method. So what does this mean for the public? It simply means faster internet speeds and higher data transfer rates.

On Facebook, Bad With the Good
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/16/fashion/using-facebook-to-announce-bad-news.html?ref=technology&_r=0
Posting bad news on facebook can eases the pain for the bearer of bad news and the recipient. It’s really hard to break bad news without crying or falling apart. But we can share painful news in less painful ways.

Reflections From Two Years of Khan Academy in the Classroom
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/shantanu-sinha/khan-academy_b_1918342.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular,education-technology

It's been just three days since Apple's iPhone 5 launch in China and already 2 million devices have already been sold. The tech giant announced today that this latest model of its popular smartphone is selling faster than ever in the Far East country. The iPhone 5 went on sale on Thursday in China and even before people could get their hands on the smartphone, hundreds of thousands of online reservations were already made for the device. The device is available through carriers China Telecom and China Unicom and, as of now, it's still not being offered on China Mobile, the country's largest carrier. China is of huge significance for Apple, it is the company's second biggest market after the U.S. and already accounted for about 15 percent ($23.8 billion) of the company's revenue for its fiscal year that ended in September. Besides China, the iPhone 5 will also be on sale in more than 100 other countries by the end of the month. According to Apple, this makes the iPhone 5 the fastest iPhone rollout ever.

ReplyDeletehttp://www.technewsworld.com/story/76350.html
Lytro is a new unorthodox boxed shaped camera that looks more like a spy toy than an actual dslr. Lytro's new technology allows users the freedom of using extra long exposure times or they can freeze the shot with super fast shutter speeds. Lytro's Light Field technology allows the camera to capture much more information about a scene than is captured by a conventional digital camera. Conventional cameras describe the sum total of light rays striking each point in an image. Light Field captures the color, intensity and direction of all the rays of light flowing into the camera.

The technology giant IBM said that it has developed a chip that can transfer data via light pulses instead of using electrical signals. This means data transfer can be transferred a lot faster compared to using electrical signals. This chip and technology does not only help with faster data transfer but it is also able to transfer bigger data compared to the other method.
So what does this mean for the public? It simply means faster internet speeds and higher data transfer rates.
